Selwyn Traverse

  • Area: Valemount
  • Length: 11KM
  • Elevation Gain: 120M
  • Shelter: None

Trail Description

The trail begins on the outside of a switchback bend, it follows a logging skid trail for only about 25m and then turns right and descends. It is easy to miss this first turn at the very start of the trail even though it is marked with an arrow. After the turn the trail descends to a bench which it follows at a constant altitude past Selkirk and Tapli Creeks to McKirdy Creek. It then ascends about 120m to avoid private property and traverses at this new level to Snowcourse Creek, where it begins a long decent to a bench land area not far above the valley floor. Home Creek is crossed, and then the trail enters an old logging block with a dense growth of young pines trees. At a recently built logging road, continue straight ahead. Near the far end of the old cut block, the Packsaddle Creek Loop branches off to the left. The Selwyn Traverse continues straight ahead back into old forest and through a gate. Keep right at the road junction past the gate, at about 1.5km beyond the SE terminus of the traverse is reached.

Trail Access
